What is it with David Ortiz and Anaheim?
David Ortiz was ejected by home plate umpire Bill Welke for arguing a called strike three in the eighth inning. Ortiz had to be forcibly restrained from Welke by manager Terry Francona and third base coach Dale Sveum. Ortiz tossed his armored padding in disgust on his way to the dugout...(Herald)
Although, as Iain points out, as with last year's Anaheim Ejection for Ortiz (why does that make me think of Mannheim Steamroller? Dear God, vacation has fried my brain), we got a gem from Tito with regard to the incident.
Last year, it was this:
Francona was asked at one point if he would walk reporters through the Ortiz episode. "I don't know if I could," the manager said. "I was up in the air at the time."
"I handed him off to Dale because I can't stop him," Francona said. "He didn't hit anyone with his bat, so we're ahead of the game."
I think Iain said it best: "Sometimes I think it's worth the Red Sox getting into all kinds of hot water, just so that we can hear one of Tito's gems."
