Randy at Over the Monster reports that Francona commented before today's game that Schilling will return to the starting rotation on Thursday against Kansas City.
I've been reading my old blog today since looking up the post on last year's Anaheim Ejection (Mannheim Steamroller! Arrgghh!) for Papi, and I am struck by nothing more than the utter, dire pessimism so laughable now.
For example. My post on said incident:
Forget about the fact that Ortiz may have squashed any hope your 2004 Red Sox had of being a success if the league suspends him for ten games. Forget about the fact that his flying off the handle could have cost us the game (somehow, absurdly, the one loss that would have been a no-brainer turned into a win).
O me of little faith!
It was not a moment of chaos, but a protracted, hideous debacle. It was an embarrassment to everyone associated with the Red Sox, as fans, as players, or as staff, management and ownership of the team. I, personally, am mortified. I wish it was possible to simply call "Mulligan" and scrap the whole season at this point, and just start over. I want to hide somewhere.
Right now, because it's late (or early, as the case may be, we've swung all the way around the clock), I can hide under the covers. But tomorrow comes with a terrible certainty.
Phew, ok. Maybe it was just a bad night.
Flip, flip, flip...last year on this date:
I am certain that Bill Mueller is going to be traded. Also, rumors are being bandied about that Roger Clemens will return to the Red Sox.
Know what? I feel pretty foolish, reading back over this stuff. I feel foolish at the possibilities I let gain weight in my mind; foolish at my pessimism; foolish at how worst-case scenario I was about everything.
So it's with that mentality that I post about the Return of the Curt. If this year turns out like last year, I'll want to come back to August 20, 2005 and read:
It was announced that The Curt will be returning to the rotation on Thursday. Huzzah!
All the things that could go wrong won't matter in the long run, will they?
