Brian earns my undying love:
This isn’t football, where a guy’s normal personality can be subsumed for 3 hours a week. We can ask a football player to be violent on the field and at least societally acceptable off it. But baseball … a man is as a man is. We can’t expect Manny to deal with stress of baseball with his flightiness while also expecting him to act like an adult the rest of the time. And we can’t bemoan Foulke’s irascible competitiveness and occasional overdrive while we celebrate what he can do as a closer.
So, now, because of what Foulke did for the team, and because of who he is, he is struggling through a stretch of truly nightmarish pitching. But when you see him throw up another 83 mph fastball and 79 mph change, just remember what got him to this point.
