Me: OMG HOLY CRAP THIS GAME
Sam: What game???
Me: Pats game
Sam: Oh, aren't they blowing out the Bills? I've no idea, see, I'm watching Cincy/Cleveland--battle of the orange…
Me: Dude, this game…holy crap.
Me: They are blowing out the Bills but this game has been a total emotional roller coaster.
Sam: How do you mean?
Me: Starting from the point at which Tom Brady ran a touchdown in and CAME UP LIMPING
Sam: Is he ok?
Me: Apparently, yes. But before it was reported he got kicked or spiked or something and it's a flesh wound of some sort (could be changed but that's the latest news) they ran ABOUT TEN THOUSAND QB KEEPERS.
Me: And he got hit and hit and hit and hit and HIT AND HIT AND HIT and I was like, clawing at myself and speaking in tongues.
Sam: Cor blimey
Me: And sometimes he'd come up limping and sometimes not. And I was like having grand mal seizures. Then he got picked off in the end zone when it was still 14-0, and they got all the way down to our like 14 yd line, which is when Ellis Hobbs intercepted it back.
Sam: Bengals just done won on a field goal.
Sam: Yeah. I like them, because I like watching Chad Johnson do silly things. Also, cat…
Me: So then they were up like 28 to 0 and they put Flutie in and I was like OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMGOMGOMGOMGOMG WHY FLUTIE??? Then they reported the flesh wound thing.
Sam: Flutie?? Holy carp!
Me: And that Flutie was in b/c it was a blowout
Sam: So what, like someone spiked Tommy and took a chunk out of his foot?
Me: Then Ellis Hobbs got hurt
Me: No his calf like
Me: Want to caution you there hasn't been an official report yet so he could really be hurt but that was the last report
Sam: Aw, jeez…
Me: Then Tedy Bruschi tipped the ball and James Sanders caught it and ran it in to make it 35 to 0.
Sam: <3 Tedy
Me: Then the Bills scored a garbage time touchdown which I genuinely believe the Pats let them score on purpose just to be charitable
Me: And Tommy is still on the sidelines dancing around and laughing and smiling and he ran over and jumped on Sanders after he scored his first NFL touchdown
Me: So as I said emotional roller coaster but now I have to go b/c we're leaving for a concert soon
Sam: <3 Tommy as well
Me: Sorry to blab at you and run
Sam: Ha Ha, what concert?
Me: But yeah holy crap
Me: He's playing a gig with his tuba quartet
Me: Seriously gotta go but anyway yeah that's the Pats story today
Sam: Thanks for the news
...And the legend of Tom Brady grows.
Sometimes I get a fleeting glimpse of something with him that makes me feel like we have yet to even scratch the surface of what he's capable of--what kind of toughness, what kind of determination, what kind of grace.
Today's game was one of those times.
