The post over at SG today shows why they get the big money. No, really. This is right up there with the Timlin post, and given the fact that the SG boys know I quote that post at every possible opportunity, that's saying something.
Let me write a small ode to this post. This post shows two things that make Surviving Grady the current flagship Sox blog, and guys, seriously, I'm not just trying to blow smoke up your asses or butter you up so you'll come watch football with us (although that would be a nice ancillary benefit)...the sheer beauty of that post hit me like a ton of bricks today, and I want to talk about it.
Anyway, two things: one, true to life. The accents on the people, their names, locations, occupations; it's so dead on, and succeeds in dealing with a subject--making fun of people from the Boston area in a way that's new, clever, and genuinely funny--that's often attempted and rarely actually pulled off.
Second is the timing. I love that after months and months of the oversaturation and hype, and days of it reaching a crescendo after Manny's latest flip-flop, while everyone's reacting, they just stood by...and then just when everyone else has dropped the subject, they come out with "Did you hear? They might trade Manny."
I know what you boys are going to say, too. "Nah, we didn't time it out like that. It wasn't on purpose. We're just idiots."
I say, fuck that.
Also, let me say, I especially loved Charles, the Needham Investment Banker. I work in Needham. And I talk to Charles all. day. long. It was bang on the money, gents, and you might as well take some credit.
And to the rest of you: if you haven't yet read this post, better late than never.
