"It'll be a little higher energy, a little bit higher adrenaline and a bit more focused," Timlin said.
Red Sox manager Terry Francona knows Timlin is treating his addition to the team as an honor.
"It will probably mean more to him maybe than some other people," Francona said early in the week.
Although Francona likes the World Baseball Classic, he has some understandable worries about a pitcher over-doing it in competition.
"The only thing is he would be throwing with aggression and maybe some adrenaline, which probably worries everybody," Francona said. "I already yelled at him twice and he understands about getting ready. I've already had this discussion. And we'll help him get ready."
Timlin is approaching the event with a combination of a veteran's wisdom and the enthusiasm of a player named to his first national team.
i.e., in the words of Red, "Grab your nuts and run."
I love the image of Tito yelling at Mike Timlin. Because I wholeheartedly believe he's possibly the only person in the UNIVERSE who can get away with actually physically yelling at Mike Timlin without getting his neck snapped. Although I get the sense it probably at least crosses Timlin's mind.
P.S. I loved this Tito tidbit from SI.com:
"Schill's never going to be a male model (but) he looks terrific,'' manager Terry Francona said of his full-bodied starter.
I remain convinced Tito is the perfect manager for this team. I will be displeased indeed once the annual "Tito is a moron and he sucks and we should fire him" starts up in June.
