Very little to say about this one--a typical ho-hum April crapfest from beginning to end. Too early to really get all pissed off about it, too far along already not to be righteously indignant on Tim Wakefield's behalf. I guess Wake doesn't fit into our new system of winning only one-run games in which no greater than four total runs are scored.
Also--I find this important to note. Before we all jump on Josh Bard (and I know it's happening somewhere as I type this, one of those backwards-cap-wearing Sam-Adams chugging guys is fuming, This guy Baaaad cahn't catch shit, the fuck we trade Mirabelli fowah, ah Jeezis.), the facts as read by the NESN broadcast team should be properly acknowledged. To wit: the last game in which there were four passed balls for the Red Sox was in 2003, with Tim Wakefield on the mound and Doug Mirabelli behind the plate. In case that's not enough, it was also noted that the last time there were five passed balls in one game was in 1999, once again with Tim Wakefield on the mound and Jason Varitek behind the plate. Just something to consider before calling for Bard's head.
Otherwise, I'm fairly disgusted with this game and fairly irritated with Cleveland's fans in general. A chant of "Manny sucks"? Beating drums in the outfield stands, i.e. a perfect self-caricature in tune with the movie? A "Boooooooooone" chant??!?!
I'd find it difficult to even call myself a fan of a team--much less start chants about how other people's players suck while praising a giant pile of mediocrity like Boone--whose logo is an embarrassingly racist caricature. Could just be me.

They always do the drums thing.

doesn't mean it's not stupid.

"... logo is an embarrassingly racist caricature..."
Considering the Red Sox and the city of Boston's infamous history regarding racism, that's kind of one of those standing in glass houses and throwing stones kinds of comments, isn't it?

a history of racism and continuing to display a cartoon of "chief wahoo" as the logo for a modern-day team are two very, very different things in my opinion. i think i'd be in a glass house if the red sox had little black sambo on their hats and uniforms--that might be a better parallel from my point of view.

awww, c'mon, we all know the real reason the Sox let Pedro go . . .

It's not like they built a baseball complex in Central America!

Good point on the comparison.
Hopefully, all that ugly stuff stays in Boston's past.
