Alex Belth

Hey Beth,
I hear you about Johnny Gomes. He's one of those guys you love to have on your team and you loath when he's on the opposition (which pretty much sums up how I feel about Schilling and Beckett, though obviously I'm not comparing them literally to Gomes, especially Schilling). He has no fear, hits dingers, is cocky and has that Pete Rose head first slide into third kind of arrogance.
He beat the Yanks in a variety of ways late last season. I thought maybe he was just a flash in the pan, but he made enough of an impression for me to keep my eyes out for him moving forward.
The guy was stuck in the minors for a long while, with tools guys jumping ahead of him. So I admire his determination. Also, I recall some story about him last season and he had a tough upbrining. Single mom who was homeless at one point and they lived out of her car. Or something to that effect.

Alex Belth: Hey! Here's all the coolest details about that which you, you know, didn't bother to explore.

Beth: D'Oh!
