Today in Red Sox history:
photo's exact origins unknown...the depths of the Internet I'm sure.
2004 Kevin Youkilis had to leave the country to make his major league debut, flying into Toronto, but went 2-for-4 with an RBI (his fourth-inning home run) in a 4-0 Red Sox win.
2003 Some 33,801 attended Fenway Park--a sold-out house. They saw the Sox (and Pedro Martinez) beat the Texas Rangers, 12-3. It was the first sellout of a stretch that has continued without a break through the 2005 season, becoming the second-longest stretch of sold-out games in major league history on August 28, 2005, when the Fenway streak reached 204 games. That topped the Colorado Rockies' 203-game streak. (Cleveland's Jacobs Field holds the record, with 455 straight sold-out games from 1995 to early 2001.) On May 14, Fenway wasn't quite sold out: the figure was 32, 485.
Tonight in Red Sox future, the Red Sox play the Baltimore Orioles, somewhere it isn't raining, I hope. Beckett on the hill vs. erstwhile Red Sox killer (and recent Red Sox bitch) Rodrigo Lopez. Meanwhile, I'm flying off to Chicago this morning for my own four-day road trip. Will update whenever possible, but you know how it goes.
Good luck staying dry to all my New England brethren...we will too see the sun again...next Tuesday...
