Chops

Has Clement ever pitched out of the bullpen? He generally has late-inning trouble in his starts, so maybe shorter outings would suit him. At this point, I'd be willing to give Jermaine a whirl as starter.

David Welch

I second that motion. Clement to take Timlin's spot for the time being. And he should be replaced by Clemens

The Couch Potato

Sorry, but I disagree with this idea completely as I don't think a moving an unreliable pitcher from starter to reliever benefits the team in any way. I can't imagine ANY late-inning situation in which I'd feel comfortable having Clement pitch. He doesn't get in trouble because he's tired; he crumbles emotionally at the first sign of a jam. Can you really see bringing him in the 7th or 8th with runners on in a close game? The Sox already have two pitchers in the pen who can't be trusted to hold inherited runners (Tavarez, Timlin).

Jerry Remy reported last night that Van Buren hasn't worked as a starter since high school if I remember correctly. Since then, he's been a 1 to 2-plus inning reliever (in fact, he worked as a closer in another farm systerm) and would need to be sent back to Pawtucket to stretch out. That's a process that takes a couple of months.

Lester may (or may not) be ready, depending on which reporter you read or listen to, and Hansen is still in the process of being converted from reliever to starter. He's gone a max of 4 innings for the PawSox. Given that that's all Clement's provided in his last two starts, Hansen may be part of the solution if/when David Wells returns. I think that until Boomer's and Roger Clemens' situations are clarified, you're not going to see any major decisions on Clement barring a trade that brings a #4 type pitcher.

Peter Mark

Well, now that it's Wed. morn, both the Rocket's and the Boomer's situations have solidified cemently. Time soon to act. We can wait until June. Lets see, that's 14 hours or so.

The Couch Potato

Yeah, clarified quite nicely, huh? Oh brother.
