Another December has us saying, "What Miami game?!?"
There is, however, a small silver lining...
...and Jacksonville runningback Maurice Jones-Drew just said to the CBS boys, "We're not thinking about the playoffs. We're going to celebrate this tonight and then look forward to Tennessee next week."
What was that I was saying about the culture of the underdog?
The wonderful thing about the NFL and the way it's built is that it keeps regenerating itself. Loyalists to one particular team may hate it sometimes (myself among them), but the reality is, we Pats fans can't possibly be the Yankees fans of the NFL for one reason, and one reason only: parity. It's parity that has Maurice Jones-Drew assuming the role of Tedy Bruschi on the CBS cameras this afternoon. It's parity that has the talking heads buzzing about the Jets possibly being for real this year. It's parity that will bring what we've enjoyed here in New England for the last five years to some other city; at least we can know our angst is another person's gain.
But, yeah, I'll let you know when any of that starts actually making me feel better.
P.S. Hooray for the Saints. They are my feel-good team of the year so far.
