The clock's ticking on the trade deadline this afternoon. It has been reported that Mark Texeira, who was at the center of many Sox trade rumors, is headed to Atlanta.
Meanwhile, the rumor I've heard is that Jermaine Dye is coming to the Sox in exchange for MDC, Masterson and WMP. Dye has been insistent about his playing time, but a report I heard this morning said the Sox had assured him he'd be playing 5 days a week. Since JD Drew is apparently untouchable, what are we supposed to make of THAT little tidbit? One speculative theory I heard was that if Dye comes here, they're going to sit Papi for a good long time so he can recover from injuries, put Manny in the DH spot and Dye in right. Um. Gulp.
It's no secret by now that this aspect of sports is not my cup of tea. It isn't pleasant to me to contemplate the loss of any of the players I've grown attached to over the course of the season. I'm also not a huge fan of bandying about speculation on top of rumors on top of wild guesses when it comes to where players are going. The biggest trades I can remember came with no warning or rumor beforehand whatsoever anyway (cf. Nomar).
Anyway. I watched the games this weekend, 3/4 to the D-Rays isn't stellar, but I'll take it. I was not a fan of the home run derby on Sunday at all, and it's one instance where I'll agree with Tito's detractors that his pitching management left something to be desired. Not much else to say today other than that. If anybody wants to have trade-deadline discussions / venting / freakouts today, my comments are open.
