The Pats and Colts played a barn-burner today.
To call this game close would be an understatement. In fact, by the time the second half of this game opened, I had already begun composing a post in my head about how, exactly, the Colts had managed to beat the Patriots. It wasn’t just that the Colts were ahead 13-7 as the third quarter began; they had also been outplaying the Patriots in most phases of the game in the first half. Thank God we beat those a-holes in the end--horrible refs, broadcast homers, uncharacteristic mental lapses and all. On the refereeing front, WEEIners are crying conspiracy. I don't know if I'd go that far, but damn, how do you call that pass interference on Ellis Hobbs in the second quarter? I mean, how does that happen?
This Clash of the Titans was supposed to lead us, the national football audience at large, to some sort of predictive conclusion about which team is really tops in the NFL. Personally, I don't think this game accomplished that. It was too close, and in most statistical measures remained all but dead even. It all came down to a couple of key plays which could have gone either way; the next time these teams meet, predictions will still probably come down to a coin flip.

Without several highly questionable pass interference calls and non-calls, the Colts aren't even this game.
That they lost, even with all the help, just makes it that much sweeter.

You catch that one-handed grab by Moss early in the second half? Now you know why Andy Gresham calls they guy, "Super freak!"
For me, the key play of the game was Roosevelt Colvin's sack in the fourth quarter. People seem to forget that amidst all the offense in that last quarter. Go Rosie!!!!

I'm not a huge football fan (its something to pass the time between WS & spring training), but no sports fan could miss this game. I have 2 questions; (1) how can "professional" referees be so so so bad? and (2) When did Indy get a defense?

Sorry for posting something completely unrelated to the Patriots, but the latest edition of Red Sox Report is on. I think Beckett deserves some kind of reprieve. They showed him doing a mock sort of waltz with some guy in the field after game four, and saying something like, "See, I told you I would dance." (Total paraphrase.) Although I agree that's certainly not as good as watching him in a kilt with Papelbon during the parade, at least it's something.

Intrigued by the idea of you doing another "Pretty Good Year". Really can't wait to read it.
That's not a statement meant to rush you, just saying...unless it makes you want to write more, in which case, rush away!
