For some, the losses of that day will remain a burden as long as they live. For the rest of us, to pretend to be carrying an equal measure of grief after so many years have passed would be disrespectful. This year, memorials emphasized the memories of heroism and humanity, the hope and renewal that also rose from those ruins. You weep not just over the evil, but the goodness it throws into such relief.
