Walk-off plunking wins it for Red Sox
BOSTON -- It was the type of bizarre ending that could only happen between two teams fighting hard for coveted berths in the postseason.
There the A's were, a sea of green jerseys, five of them in the Fenway Park infield, desperately trying to prevent RBI man extraordinaire Manny Ramirez from driving in the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning with the bases loaded and one out.
And there the Red Sox were, rushing out of the dugout to celebrate another walk-off win, but suddenly realizing they needed to remind Ramirez to touch first base for that 3-2 victory to become official...

Ramirez provides all the offense in win
BOSTON -- Manny Ramirez picked the best of times to snap out of a slump. The Red Sox slugger drove in both runs, including the go-ahead score in the sixth inning with a tape-measure homer, while Bronson Arroyo held Oakland in check over seven strong innings, leading the Red Sox to a 2-1 win on Saturday night at Fenway Park...
Were it not for Manny, the Yankees, who tonight won their sixth straight, would have a half-game lead in the AL East right now.
Don't ever boo him again.
He's been listening to Big Papi:
"I've been watching Manny all the time," Ortiz said. "When I talk to him, he listens to me. I told him [on Thursday] that he was [standing] too far from the plate. He told me, 'Yeah, you're right.' He came back in, fixed it and then started getting his hits. He started hitting pitches he was missing, and tonight, look what happened."
