Sam has taken the time to carefully reconstruct the events of this afternoon in this brilliant post for Roar of the Tigers. So many good lines:
"Now, judging from some photos, it looks like Jonesy and Red Sox third base coach DeMarlo Hale were “exchanging information” before Leyland got onto the field..."
"Everyone stands around squealing at each other, because it’s March and nobody wants to get Kyle Farnsworthed out there."
At some point in the game, Beckett injures his jaw (!) by colliding with Sheffield at home plate (!!).
Sam expresses confusion as to how this happened, but I have a pretty good idea of what went down--Beckett, I'm going to go ahead and conclude, "collided" with Sheffield's "fist" in the vicinity of the plate during the big shoving match. Because any Red Sox fight must be in some way related to the Yankees.
Also, between this and last year's Spring Training demolition derby, you'd think at least one TV network somewhere would want to start getting some video cameras to these games.
I like your site. I linked to it on mine, check it out and add us if you like.

Beth -
I was at the game, and we were all confused. Some people thought Todd Jones simply couldn't locate his pitches, since he didn't confront the ump at all: he was standing on the mound, and just tossed up the ball and walked off. It was very weird.
And why would they choose Drew to throw at instead of Varitek, who led off the inning against Jones?
It was incomprehensible... but it made the game a lot of fun.

The other odd thing from the "fight" was Wily Mo Pena. Obviously, you want him on your side. But it seemed like, far from fighting, he was standing with his arm around one of the Tigers' shoulder, facing his own team and trying to keep the peace. Maybe the arm wasn't as friendly as it looked - I wasn't too close - but Wily Mo certainly stood out in the scrum.
