I have to say I'm surprised. I understand that the Patriots don't have the luxury of resting on laurels this off-season after their defeat just seconds from the 19-0 finish line; I understand that a coach as perfectionistic as Bill Belichick will feel he has to re-tool as much after a Super Bowl squeaker as he would had the team not even made the playoffs. But some of the Patriots' moves (or, rather, non-moves) have really surprised me.
I knew Asante Samuel would drop the Pats like a bad habit after his acrimonious off-season last year, but Rosie Colvin? I love Tedy Bruschi as much as the next person, but why does he warrant resigning if Colvin does not?
On the offensive side, I could've predictedrole-playerslike Kyle Brady looking elsewhere for an expanded role or more money. But Donte Stallworth? And silence on Randy Moss?
Ihope Brent is right and that the Patriots can develop Chad Jackson to fill Stallworth's role, but I'mless optimistic that they can. Stallworth was a solid situational weapon for Brady and his yards after catch were tops on the team. If Chad Jackson could've done that, why didn't he the times he was in the game?
You could argue that strategically, thePatriots focused in their approach too much on the offensive side of the game last year, especially earlier in the season, and were punished for doing so when the offense was rendered a non-factor during the Super Bowl loss. Still, I fail to see howdumping Stallworth and possibly dumping Moss makes the team stronger in the places they got beat in the Bowl. Call me naive, but I thought that was the idea.
Well, I have faith in Bill Belichick.

Look even if they lose Moss they still have the best QB in the game, who has proven he can work with anyone (i.e. Reche Caldwell)
Brady still has Welker who i think is the best reciver on the team with his quickness, I maen look wat he did in the Super Bowl

Hi to all,
Giants fan here, no--not here to gloat. Instead I was just reading the latest blog that was posted and was curious.
Here's my perspective on your non-moves:
1. Asante Samuel: You knew he was leaving no matter what, however, I believe you have quite a few cb's on your roster??
2. What's up with letting Roosevelt Colvin go?? Was he injured? I know watching a few games he played great? Was money a factor?
3. As far as Moss goes, there's no way I see him leaving NE no matter what. Than again, I can't believe anyone would want to leave there because you all have the possibility of winning it all every year!
You guys are loaded on both sides of the ball, and realistically, it took flat out amazing plays to stop you from having another title: i.e. you don't need to change up anything except filling a hole caused by Samuel.
Peace to all,
Aaron

Aaron,
Good points, but we don't really have much to speak of for corners at the moment. Ellis Hobbs is the only CB left with starting experience. Colvin was let go because he and the Pats couldn't reach a re-structuring agreement, so money was the factor. He could be brought back if he doesn't find what he's looking for on the open market.
mikeNYG801072,
Sorry to disappoint you (not really) but Randy Moss is back with the Pats. See you in the Superbowl in 2009.
