You don't want to think about these epically frustrating losses to the Rays the last two nights, do you? No! Of course not! Wouldn't it be nicer simply to savor the only two wins for the Sox so far this season -- the only two wins it feels, in moments like this, that they will ever have again?
Well, then, why not take a gander at these photos from Opening Day, here in Part 1, and the Sunday night game against the Yankees, in Part 2, that I've taken this freaking long to get processed been saving for just such an occasion?
Our Opening Day began at the Baseball Tavern on Boylston St. It's normally a relatively sane place to grab a beer pregame, but that day, by the time we left, the line was down the block, and the bouncers were counting people at the door as others left, to ensure they didn't exceed fire code. It was about noon.
Dad's still on his game when it comes to embarrassing me in public -- he RAN down Van Ness St. after the Bullpen Cop to buttonhole him for a picture...and to my surprise, Bullpen Cop was totally cool with it. He even insisted we both give him knuckles, just like Papelbon does. ☺
New concourse area -- looks good.
The new center-field scoreboard was set up, before all the pomp and circumstance began, to project an image of the old one, and when they "pressed the button", the image began to shatter and crumble. After the shattering of the old images, a message spread across all three new screens that read, FENWAY PARK, NOW IN HD. Here's a video of what happened after that...
Yaz showing up to throw out the first pitch was more than a pleasant surprise -- he was a pleasant shock. This was a very rare public appearance for him.
Then there was this moment...
Meanwhile, the fan energy at the park has generally been positive despite the losing...
...it was good to see these guys back in action...
...and a much-needed win had everybody giddy.
