I've been trying desperately to come up with a set of entertaining excuses for why I haven't blogged in a ridiculous amount of time -- alien abduction being among my finalists -- but the sad and boring truth is that I've had a combination of technical and personal "issues" that have left me without the resources to blog since just before the July 4 holiday. A perfect storm of factors, you could say.
Anyway, for those who care, I thought I'd catch you up on some of where I've been and what I've been doing, in pictures, since I last blogged here...
In baseball-related activities, I did attend the Independence Day game.
The game itself didn't turn out so well, but featured an almost-comeback after Lackey racked 'em up in the early innings.
By far the most memorable part of that game for me was the pregame / first-pitch ceremony, where US Navy Petty Officer Bridget Lydon surprised her family, who thought she was still on an aircraft carrier in the Persian Gulf, by appearing to throw out the first pitch with them.
I'll never forget how one member of her family (not sure of his relation to her), ran, full speed, like something out of a movie, to scoop her up off the ground in the biggest hug he could muster.
Then, her entire weeping family group was mobbing her right in front of us in left field -- and they weren't the only ones crying.
I haven't seen this moving a pregame ceremony since the family of the late Dennis Thomson threw out the first pitch in early 2006.
Otherwise...
I've been spending lots of time in the wilds of Western Massachusetts, where my husband is employed this summer at Tanglewood...
...revisiting my alma mater...
...and, admittedly, spending more time in the stands watching musicians than ballplayers.
When I haven't been making business trips to the Left Coast, that is.
Now, tonight, it's back to baseball.
So...how has your summer been?
...and to think it was something important like you lost your computer or your internet access, as you implied technical and personal issues conspired to deprive you of the opportunity to blog.
It was you spent the 3 weeks living a life of luxury. You spent three weeks hanging out at summer camp and flying in a jet cross country and being paid for it.
Sheeeeesh. Have you looked at the unemployment rate lately? Have you no shame?
Bloody ignorant.
